Uninstall Fast Talkie

Update after Version 1.9.3 Aug 2020

You no longer need to disable Device Administrator permission as Fast Talkie Version 1.9.3 and onwards does not request for Device Administrator permission.

Some users have installed Fast Talkie thinking it is a PTT app. Fast Talkie is actually a lock screen replacement that allows you to quickly control another PTT App like Zello or VoicePing.

If you had accidentally installed it, maybe uninstalling it might not be as straight forward as other apps. This is due to the "Device Administrator" permission required for Fast Talkie to work. To help you uninstall Fast Talkie, here are a few methods to uninstall Fast Talkie. There are a few methods as no one method work on every Android Phone.

Method 1: Go to Settings -> Apps -> Fast Talkie and then Press [Uninstall]

Method 2: Settings -> Security -> Deactivate Device Administrator first, then proceed with normal uninstall.

You can now choose any button your phone or Bluetooth Buttons to activate PTT!

By default the PTT key for Fast Talkie is mapped to the Volume Down button. In Fast Talkie 1.4, you can change the PTT key to any other button. This makes PTT much easier for phones with Programmable keys, SOS keys, Multi-functional keys, Camera buttons or Volume buttons.

For example, on BV6800 PRO phone, it has a Programmable Key. This key can be used to activate PTT with Fast Talkie.

For additional convenience, you can also map the same hardware key in your PTT App so you can use the same key for PTT when Fast Talkie is on the screen or when you are in the app.

How to assign any hardware button as PTT

Bluetooth Buttons with Fast Talkie

In addition to allowing buttons on your phone, you can also assign any bluetooth button as a PTT key.

We recommend Bluetooth buttons that can has a key to pick up phone calls. When Fast Talkie is installed, press this button lights up your phone and brings you to Fast Talkie immediately.

You can then PTT using your assigned key.

The center buttons wakes up on your phone screen if it was switched off. You can then use any other button to PTT. On VoicePing, the left/right button changes channel so we suggest using the Volume Down/Volume Up Button.

When driving, it is safer to use remote control to activate Push-To-Talk. This ensures you have your hands on the wheel all the time to comply with traffic rules and improves driver safety.

Some innovative push to talk users have came up with some ways to do this. The current methods to do this is via the following methods

Using Remote Camera buttons meant for Selfies

This requires some setup to map the camera button to the push to talk behavior of the walkie talkie app that you are using. You can check out this video for how to do it.

This method ONLY works if you are in the PTT app and if you screen is on. This means that if you are switching between applications, you have to touch your phone to get back into the Walkie Talkie App like Zello before you can use the remote camera button.

Thus it is still not a very convenient and safe method.

Using Bluetooth buttons that has call/answer function

Most Push To Talk apps like VoicePing/Zello also activate their Push-To-Talk when the Call/Answer function is activated by a remote bluetooth headset or wired headset.

Some Bluetooth buttons also replicate this command and can be used to activate PTT. In this method, the Push To Talk works in Toggle mode. Toggle mode means you press once to start. After you are done talking, you have to remember to press again to stop.

This works alright is you remember to press to stop or else you could be sending noise to a lot of people. You can even accidentally trigger a PTT without knowing it and leak sensitive information.

Toggle mode is also a big behavior change for most walkie talkie users so that’s another challenge as well.
